Lessons from the 2011 Honolulu Marathon

by Michael Yang

Whenever I hear the word marathon, the first thing I think about are those Kenyan runners that finish 26.2 miles in 2 hours and a handful of minutes. This year’s Honolulu Marathon winner, finished in 2 Hours and 14 Minutes. That breaks down to about a 5 minute 7 second mile for 26.2 miles!!!

Absolutely ridiculous! I on the other hand improved my time by 40 minutes to a new personal record of about 7 hours 12 minutes. Nothing to throw a party about, but a personal record nonetheless. Less bathroom breaks and no stopping at a friend’s barbecue along the marathon route. At this rate, I’ll be within the 4 hour mark in 3-4 more years!

That's Me. 7 Hours and 12 minute Finisher!

So after my thighs cramped up at Mile 11, I had a good time to think about things during the 15 mile walk to the finish line.

4 Steps to Manifesting Your Purpose: Step 3 – Silence

by Michael Yang

“Hearing is possible for everybody. Listening is possible only for those who are silent.”  - Osho

So far, we’ve talked about Step 1 – Acknowledgment and Step 2 – Ownership in manifesting your purpose. Step 3, has been particularly important to me in the last few years and this step is practicing Silence.

We are constantly bombarded by noise. Most notably is the voice that we hear in our heads. You know, the one making the little comments and judgements to ourselves. This voice is the voice of our ego. The ego reacts to the events we experience each day.

Reactions of the ego go on to influence the most powerful tool we have, our mind. Influenced by the reactions of the ego, the mind generates thoughts and it’s these thoughts that guide the way we live our lives and experience our world.

Notice that I said our egos, meaning, we are not our ego. Rather, our ego is something that belongs to us or is a part of us. If our ego is something that we have, and our mind is a powerful tool that we have, then who are we and what is our purpose?

Silence

This is where Silence comes in. After Step 1, acknowledging that the possibility exist for you to be and do something you feel is amazing in your life, and then Step 2, taking ownership for all that is being created and experienced around you, the time has come to set the stage for your meaningful purpose to be revealed to you. 4 Steps to Manifesting Your Purpose: Step 2 – Ownership

by Michael Yang

Last time, we took a look at Step 1 of manifesting your purpose – Acknowledge.

Today we move on to Step 2 – Ownership. More specifically, taking ownership for all of the ways you find your life desirable or undesirable at this point in time.

From Acknowledgement to Ownership

Acknowledging will give you a starting point, where you open the door and set in motion the events that lead towards the worldly realization of a possibility. Ownership allows you to be guided along during the process. So what makes Ownership such a crucial part in the process? Read the rest of this entry »

4 Steps to Manifesting Your Purpose: Step 1 – Acknowledge

by Michael Yang

In my last post, I shared a statement saying that  the whole purpose of this life is to undo our impression of limitation and the fear of the world that comes with it.

There are certain simple steps to take that will allow your purpose to start revealing itself to you. It won’t take a physical effort, but definitely a mental one.

Anything is a Possibility

The first step is very simple. Read the rest of this entry »

The Purpose of Your Life Is…

by Michael Yang

Many of us have the same routines and schedules each day, go to work, come home, and get ready for the next day. We’re all creatures of habit. Turn on the TV and we’ll see that for as hard as most people work, they are just barely getting by and not very happy doing so.

I always wonder, during the course of the day, how many people stop for a moment, and ask themselves, “On a bigger level, what is this all for? What is my purpose? What am I meant to do? Who am I meant to be?”

Purpose

Even though each person may answer differently, their answer is rooted in a core intuition that is a part of everyone nature. This core intuition is… Read the rest of this entry »

From Security Towards the Prospect of Fulfillment

by Michael Yang

Today is the first day of not having to go to work at the Insurance company I stopped working at. The last day was bittersweet as I was excited to be moving forward towards what I wanted to work on. Yet it was sad to be leaving the relationships and friendships that have formed over the last 5 years.

Freedom!

Moving Forward

Moving forward is exciting, but a little scary at the same time. It’s alarming at the very least to see prospects come to an end. No more steady paycheck, no more air conditioned office to work in. How does one overcome the fear or paralysis that comes with leaving the security of something steady, albeit monotonous? How can one have the empowered mindset to go forward for the prospect, not even a guarantee, of greater fulfillment and reward?

The Importance of Rest and Recuperation

by Michael Yang

I’ve got a tendency to overdo things sometimes. Achieving a balance in life is something I’m still working on.

As elusive as a balanced lifestyle may seem to be, it is important strive towards for all the benefits it provides. For the past year and few months, I’ve been working 70-80 hours a week and recently, I’ve been feeling it starting to take its toll, in my energy level, enthusiasm, and constricted flow. The only way to remedy is to take advantage of the important benefits of rest and recuperation!

Being the Source, There is No Fear

by Michael Yang

I am in the process of learning to create the kind of life I want.

It’s not something that there’s an instruction manual for, but the possibility exists and therefore there must be a way. If we look at a result out there in the world that is already possible, then we know that this is a possibility available for us as well.

The Source of Creation

As I move forward, I try to build my courage, to let go of what I perceive as security, and pursue freedom. Freedom is not something that’s free.

After time, I think freedom is the most precious thing that anyone can have in this world. With freedom anything is possible.

Yet, as I move forward, fear never goes away. “What about the mortgage? What about the bills? What about saving money? Do you have a plan? etc” That mind and ego can be a bitch sometimes when it comes to making what you want to happen happen.

As I was thinking about it this morning, i was reading Courage by Osho and it occurred to me, “Why do I fear?”

“Because, I am dependent upon a situation, I am dependent on someone or something for a desired outcome.”

Then it occurred to me, that when you’re the source rather than a dependent, when you are the creator rather than the consumer, when you are cause and not effect, there is freedom and empowerment in that.

I wish everyone the awareness to start each new day knowing they are the Source of creation and the courage to move forward powerfully in the face of fear and doubt.
